Inside Line Promotions – DUNDEE, N.Y. (April 25, 2017) – Joe Trenca opened his chase for the Patriot Sprint Tour American championship with a solid performance last Friday at Outlaw Speedway.
The Mucci Motorsports competitor kicked off the event by maneuvering from fourth to second place in a heat race, which earned a spot in the feature redraw.
“We had good speed in the heat race,” he said. “We had a late-race caution and didn’t need that. I chose the right lane on the restart, but we got mixed up on top. That still put us in the redraw.”
Unfortunately, Trenca pulled the second-highest number – 11 – to start the main event on the inside of the sixth row.
“The feature was a long race,” he said. “It was about an hour and 20 minutes. We had like eight cautions on Lap 7. I couldn’t get rolling for a while.”
After dropping to around 13th on the initial start, Trenca rallied into the top 10 by the midpoint of the feature.
“I picked off about three on Lap 9 and then there weren’t cautions until around Lap 23,” he said. “We started catching back up. The last 10 laps we were all right there. Everyone was the same speed. Our lap times were right there with the leaders.”
Trenca ended with an eighth-place finish, which marks his third straight season with a top 10 at the track.
“I enjoyed it and we have some good momentum going,” he said. “To get out of there with a decent finish and the car in one piece was a good result.”
Trenca, who ranks fifth in the Patriot Sprint Tour American championship standings following the opener, said he is unsure what the team’s plan is for this Friday. However, they will compete on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
