Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 18, 2017) – Joe Trenca is ready for points racing, which begins this Friday during the Patriot Sprint Tour season opener.
The Mucci Motorsports competitor will venture to Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., for his first 360ci winged sprint car start of the year after opening the season with four 410ci sprint car races.
“I think racing the 410 will help us this week and moving forward,” he said. “We are looking forward to starting the Patriot Sprint Tour season and running with those guys all year. Hopefully we can put together a consistent night and end up front.”
Trenca has competed at Outlaw Speedway one time during each of the last two seasons. He placed eighth last year and 10th in 2015.
He is also coming off his season-best result of 15th last Saturday during his second career race at Port Royal Speedway, where he placed fifth in a heat race to line up on the inside of the eighth row in the main event.
“It was nice to get a complete night in after running into the issue that kept us from starting the feature there the previous week,” he said. “We moved forward a bit at the start of the race and were battling for a top 10, but we started to have a brake issue. We were able to hang on for 15th.”
The weekend began last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where Trenca placed seventh in both a heat race and the B Main.
“It’s really, really tough racing those guys,” he said. “We didn’t put ourselves in a good position and that hurt us. On a positive note we learned more.
“Our goal is to keep improving our 410 program and sometimes you have to take your lumps. I think last weekend was good in terms of what we learned. Now we’ll get in the 360 this weekend and try to contend for a win.”
