Freeman Starts Strong at Superbowl Speedway Before Tough Ending

Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (April 18, 2017) – Cody Freeman’s night at Superbowl Speedway last Saturday went from great to heartbreak in a heartbeat. The teen opened the night with a fast race car, but ended with a broken machine.

“We started the night with the best car I’ve ever driven,” he said. “It was fast and I was really comfortable.”

Freeman won his winged ‘A’ class micro sprint heat race and started the main event on the outside of the front row.

“We won the heat and led the first seven or eight laps in the feature,” he said. “I got passed, but was still right there. With about five laps to go I got passed again and was battling to get the spot back and we were in lapped cars. I split a lapped car and the guy running second got into a lapped car and spun. I hit him and rolled the car.”

Freeman was uninjured, but the same can’t be said about the car.

“It’s tore up pretty good,” he said. “We will probably be out for a while. It’s a shame because my dad has the car figured out. But like he said, ‘We’d rather crash running up front and battling for a win than running at the back of the pack.’”

Freeman, who was credited with a 16th-place result, isn’t sure how long the family car will be out of service. However, he has been talking to Charles Gengo, who owns a car Freeman drove to a ninth-place finish a couple of weeks ago.

“Hopefully Mr. Gengo will put me in his car until we get ours fixed up,” Freeman said. “I liked driving for him. He’s a really nice guy and he loves to race.”
