Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 12, 2017) – Ryan Bowers kicked off his first full season of competing in a 410ci winged sprint car last Saturday at 34 Raceway with the IRA Sprint Car Series.
Bowers and the Ozzie Motorsports team qualified 24th quickest before finishing eighth in a heat race. After starting sixth in the B Main, Bowers charged his way to the front and claimed the win, which lined him up 19th in the A Main.
“We showed some good speed at times and were moving forward during the first part of the feature,” he said. “But I caught a hole and bicycled the car and lost some momentum.”
With a long season ahead, Bowers played it smart and decided to bring the car home in one piece as he settled for 19th.
“We have this weekend off, which will be helpful,” he said. “The crew is making some changes to make me feel more comfortable in the car. I can’t wait to get back in the car and get to a race track that I’ve been to before.”
Going to new tracks will be a theme for Bowers this year. Running with the IRA Sprint Car Series for the first time will take him to a handful of familiar tracks, but also many new ones.
“I enjoy going to new places and it’s kind of the reason I wanted to run with the IRA series,” he said. “I’ve never heard of some of these tracks before, but I know that following this series will help me learn and grow as a driver.”
The team will return to action April 22 at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., with the IRA Sprint Car Series.
