Pair of Top-10's For Covington at TMS

CG Motorsports- Glenpool, OK (April 12, 2017) – Matt Covington drove the Triple X/A-Rock Materials mount to a pair of solid top-10s last weekend during the Tony Stewart Presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals event at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

“We had speed and a good car all weekend,” Matt said. “On Friday night, I just made a couple of small mistakes that cost me a few spots during the race. The car was a lot better than the results, it was my driving that lost us a lock-in position.”

Covington came home 2nd in the heat after starting 3rd and 2nd in the qualifier after starting 4th. The point total from the heat and qualifier started Matt 2nd in the A-main. After hopping the cushion and making contact with the wall early in the race, Covington salvaged a 7th place finish to cap off Night 1 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

On Saturday, night number 2 at TMS, Covington came home 2nd in the heat and 4th in the qualifier. The results netted him a 9th place starting position in the feature. Matt battled most of the feature trying to advance, but wound up only gaining one spot, resulting in an 8th place finish at the checkers.

“The car was good during the heats and qualifier on Saturday.” stated Matt. “We got enough points to start 9th in the feature. We drove hard in the feature to move forward, but near the end the car started to get tight and I wasn’t making much progress. After a couple of reds and yellows, we ended up around where we started. Overall it was a solid weekend for us, achieving consecutive top-10’s. But truthfully, it was a tad disappointing for the team not being able to capitalize on the front row start on Friday to lock in. Tyler has been working hard to give me good cars this year. We just need to learn how to better manage the kind of track conditions we had a TMS. Sam has been very fast and the caliber of talent on the National Tour this year is as good as I have raced with and we need to be at that level, on edge, every night to be successful. Hopefully we can do better this weekend in Sedalia and manage a podium finish along with some positive momentum to build on going forward.”

Up next this weekend for Covington is Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
