26 Promotions – Queen Creek, AZ – (April 12th, 2017) – Cody Batten was looking to get back to his 2016 form, which saw him earn eight Top 5’s and pick up Rookie of the Year honors, this weekend at Arizona Speedway.
Starting 2nd in his Heat race, Batten found his way to the point quickly and would lead until the white flag lap when the car would get a little loose causing Batten to lose a position and finish in 2nd.
The Heat race result would line Batten up 7th for the 20-lap Feature.
“The track was in great shape,” said Batten. “I’ve never seen a curb like that at Arizona Speedway but it made for great racing.”
The track conditions would allow Batten to wheel the 71B machine up to 2nd by the halfway point of the race. Under caution a few laps later, Batten realized he no longer had brakes.
“I lost my brake caliper,” Batten explained. “It made it hard to run the bottom, so I had to hang on and run the top.”
With no brakes, Batten would fall back to 4th but he’d persevere to earn his first Top 5 finish of the season.
Batten returns to action on May 6th when the NAPA Non-Wing Series makes their first appearance at Canyon Speedway Park.
Cody Batten would like to thank Larry H Miller Surprise, Handi Mac, Anasazi Pool & Spas and HPS Racing for their continued support.
