26 Promotions – Phoenix, AZ – (April 6th, 2017) – After a 3 week break from NAPA Non-Wing Sprint Car action, Cody Batten is ready to do battle this weekend at Arizona Speedway for the Arizona Desert Shootout.
The NAPA Non-Wing Series will be the support class, in what is arguably their biggest event of the year, to the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. But Batten won’t allow that to affect his approach to this weekend’s race.
“I don’t let what’s around me or who is watching me ever affect my performance,” he said. “It’s really cool to have such big named Outlaw guys there watching, but I’ll be calm, focused and ready to put on the best show I can.”
Batten has had success at Arizona Speedway including a top 10 finish at the track on March 11th.
“Arizona Speedway has always been a good, fast track,” Batten said. “The guys do a great job prepping the track, by the end of every night the track is wide and racey with two grooves, which makes for exciting racing and I always seem to run better on bigger tracks.”
Entering Saturday’s race Batten has scored two top 10 finishes in NAPA Non-Wing action despite struggling with injection issues. He used last Saturday’s USAC Southwest Series race at Canyon Speedway Park as a test session to get the car dialed in for this weekend.
“Last weekend was a good test for us,” he explained. “We put some things back on the motor that we used last year that has proved itself to work. The new injection system we had just wasn’t getting the job done. We should be all set to go come Saturday night.”
Batten had success at this event last year, winning his heat race and finishing 3rd in the Main and hopes to duplicate, if not improve, upon that result.
“The most important thing will be starting position and staying out of trouble,” he said. “If we can accomplish that, there is no reason we can’t have another top 3 finishing race car.”
DIRTVision.com will have free audio of the Arizona Desert Shootout available for anyone unable to attend the event.
Cody Batten would like to thank Larry H. Miller Surprise, Handi Mac, Anasazi Pool & Spas and HPS Racing for their continued support.
