Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 5, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi is heading to the desert this weekend for a pair of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races in Arizona.

Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned team will compete on Friday at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton for the Yuma Valley Showdown before making their debut at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek on Saturday for the Arizona Desert Shootout.

Scelzi placed 10th during his most recent race at Cocopah Speedway in the finale of the 2016 Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which brought the top sprint car stars in the nation to the 3/8-mile oval during the offseason.

“I’m really excited to return to Cocopah Speedway, where we raced during the Winter Heat event last year,” he said. “That’s a really fun track that produces great racing. I’m also looking forward to our first visit to Arizona Speedway.”

Scelzi is coming off a weekend that featured a lot of hard luck. The action began last Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., for the Kings Outlaw Shootout with the World of Outlaws. Scelzi qualified 16th quickest before placing fifth in a heat race to lock into the 20th starting position for the main event.

“It was a challenging race,” he said. “Every time we’d go forward something would happen in front of us. It seemed like we went from the back to the middle too many times.

“We got up to 13th or so and someone spun off the track. He came back on right in front of us and I checked up and fell to 20th. We battled back to around 12th or 13th and on a restart someone hit my right rear and we got a flat.”

Scelzi battled back from both instances to post a 19th-place result. Here is a link to view the feature: https://youtu.be/rOQ6M9MLmvI.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Antioch Speedway, where Scelzi made his season debut driving for Nick McColloch. The team qualified third quickest in their group, which lined Scelzi up on the outside of the front row of a heat race next to his younger brother, Giovanni.

“We got the jump right away and took the lead,” Dominic Scelzi said. “We had a caution and I chose the outside lane for the restart. The guy inside made contact on the green flag and he shoved us up the track and we fell back to third.”

Scelzi finished third in the heat race to lock into the 15th starting position for the main event.

“There wasn’t much passing in the feature,” he said. “It was really tough to pass. Turns one and two were hooked up and rough. Turns three and four were slick to the wall. We took what we could get and moved on to the next one.”

Scelzi picked up a handful of positions to end with an 11th-place finish. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/L3Q8NduYX5s.

“I want to thank Nick for the opportunity as well as the guys on both teams for their hard work this weekend,” he said.
