Freeman Maneuvers From 20th to Top-10 Finish at Gator Motorplex

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (April 5, 2017) – Cody Freeman jumped into a new car and promptly scored his first top-10 finish of the season last Saturday at Gator Motorplex.

“I raced for Charles Gengo a while ago,” he said. “When his son decided he didn’t want to race, Mr. Gengo didn’t want to get out of the sport and he gave me a call last week. It was only my second weekend outside the Tulsa Shootout and I was in a completely different kind of car. But once I got comfortable I felt right at home.”

Freeman explained he normally drives a 600cc micro sprint with a panhard bar suspension and Gengo’s race car is more like a sprint car’s Jacobs Ladder’s rear suspension.

“I went out for two sets of hot laps just trying to figure out the feel of the car,” Freeman said. “We made some setup adjustments and gear changes and I felt good. A panhard car kind of drives you, but with the Jacobs Ladder I had to drive the car harder. I had more control. I told my dad if this is what a sprint car feels like I can’t wait to drive one.”

Freeman started sixth in his heat race and he recorded a fourth-place finish. That narrowly missed locking into the A Main and instead relegated Freeman to the B Main, where a runner-up result earned a transfer into the back of the main event.

“I started 20th and was able to drive the car wherever I wanted,” he said. “To get in a car I’ve never sat in before and pass that many cars and get a ninth-place finish was just incredible. I can’t wait to get back out there soon.”

Freeman is scheduled to return to action on April 15 at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.
