Lansing, MI April 2, 2017: The long winter is over and the planning, discussing and debates are done and it’s time to race! Today in Lansing, MI, the NCRA Great Lakes Super Sprints held their pre-season team meeting to go through changes for the upcoming season as well as discussing race procedures.
The first thing discussed is a 2 inch wicker bill will be allowed if you’re using a flat wing. Wheel covers were discussed and we will continue to allow wheel covers with 3 screws, but recommend going to the 5 or 6 screw wheel covers for 2018.
Next we discussed the nightly race format. Below is an outline of how that format will look….
- Registration and pill draw. Pill draw will determine your qualifying order
and group.
- Qualifying in groups of 3 (possibly 4 on large tracks)
- Qualifying will set the Heat Race line ups. We will invert the top 4 cars in
each heat race. Placing the fast qualifer in the 4th position of the 1st Heat
Race, 2nd fast qualifier in 4th position of the 2nd Heat Race and the 3rd
fast qualifier in the 4th position of the 3rd Heat Race, etc.
- We will take the top 2 cars from each heat race for a re-draw. Whether we
have 3 or 4 heat races, we will always take the top two cars. The re-draw
will be based on your qualifying finish (fast qualifier first, etc.) If a dash is
ran, the top 2 cars from each heat will go to the dash to determine their
feature line up.
- If we have 3 heat races, we will transfer the top 5 to the A-Main and if we
have 4 heats, we will transfer 4 to the A-Main. The top 2 from each heat is
in the dash or re-draw, the remaining transfer spots will be placed in the
7th-15th or 7th-16th respectively by how they finished their heat race, ie.
3rd place finisher in the first heat race will be placed in 7th, the 3rd place
finisher in the 2nd heat race will be placed in the 8th position, etc.
- Cars moving on to a B-Main (23 or more cars), will be placed in their finish
order from their heat races, ie. First car out of a transfer spot from the 1st
Heat Race will start the poll in the B-Main.
- Cars transferring from the B-Main will fill in the vacant spots in the A-Main
in order of their B-Main finish.
- Alternates to the A-Main will be the first 2 cars out of the transfer to the A-
Main. These cars will need to be ready to go in the chute at the beginning
of the A-Main. No alternates will be taken after the original green flag has
displayed.
Points changes….
- All Races for NCRA Great Lakes Super Sprints will be for full race points
except for the ASCS/GLSS Co-sanctioned race at Plymouth Speedway,
Tuesday, July 18th and the Manistee Fair Grounds race, Friday, August
25th which will be for show up points.
- In addition to race finish points, points will be awarded for qualifying as
well as heat race finishes.
Additional changes to our racing rules….
~ QUALIFYING – If a car misses their qualifying group or their transponder does not register during their assigned group, they will be allowed to qualify after all groups are done. But no matter how fast they qualify, the best they can start their heat is the first position out of the inversion…which would be in the 5th spot of the 1st heat race.
~RACE STARTS – The beginning of the race will be a double file start. There will be a chalk line in turn 4. The pole setter will bring the group around into turn at a steady pace until he gets to the chalk line. All rows must hold their position until they pass the chalk line, then game on. RESTARTS after a minimum of 1 completed lap will be single file. At this point a cone will be placed between turn 3 and 4 as well as in the front stretch. The leader will bring the field into turn 3 at a steady pace and then can take off somewhere between the cone and the chalk line. All cars must stay to the right of the front stretch cone and not pass the car in front of them till they’ve passed that cone. Anyone passing under(left) of the front stretch cone will be docked two positions.
~JUMPS AT START – This is the warning and it will be brought up at each pre-race drivers meeting…if it is determined a jump has occurred the caution will come out and the offending car will be sent to the back of the field (heat race, B-Main or A-Main) There will be 2 people in the scoring tower and 2 people on the ground that will make these calls.
~TIRES – Hoosier tires are required on all 4 corners of all NCRA Great Lakes Super Sprints races. MED* tires are required on the right rear. *NRA right rear tires will be allowed at co-sanctioned races until they have been sold out of inventory. At this point NRA tires will be allowed for 3 additional co-sanctioned races then the Hoosier MED RR will be the only tire allowed.
We will have transponders and pouches available for rent and tires available for sale at all NCRA Great Lakes Super Sprints races in the GLSS hauler where registration takes place. Anyone wanting to purchase their own we will be placing an order by April 17th. Yellow Westhold transponder, charger and pouch...$200,00.
Also discussed was the additional $100 payout to GLSS members that run in a B-Main, but don’t make the A-Main, giving them a minimum of $250 for qualifying, heat race and completing the B-Main.
Anyone running the GLSS logo on their nose wing, will receive $25 for winning their Heat Race, $50 for winning the B-Main and $100 for winning the A-Main.
