Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 21, 2017) – Josh Baughman posted an eighth-place result during the opening round of the 44th annual Spring Nationals last weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

“Honestly, we didn’t have a great weekend,” he said. “We were chasing balance all weekend. We were fortunate on Friday. We moved forward, but I think we should have been better.”

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader began on Friday with Baughman advancing from second to win a heat race. He then picked up a position to finish fifth in a qualifier. That was good enough to lock him into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We got lucky enough to draw good enough and put ourselves in position, but we weren’t good enough to go forward,” he said. “We gained a few positions in the feature so that was a positive and we came out of there with a top 10, but our goals are higher than that.”

Baughman rallied from 13th to place eighth, which marked his first top 10 of the season.

Unfortunately, the team didn’t fare as well on Saturday.

“We struggled all night from the first green flag,” he said. “We weren’t able to gain anything. We tried a couple of different things. In the B Main we finally got the car to rotate and we got up to fourth, but just weren’t in position to get a transfer.”

Baughman placed fourth in a heat race before a DNF in a qualifier relegated him to a B Main. He then advanced from eighth to fourth place, which was one spot shy of a transfer into the main event.

“We’re putting Devil’s Bowl behind us and we’re going to start over,” he said. “I think Wayne (Priddy) found some things to change and we should be good moving forward.”

Baughman is scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA before making his debut at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., on Sunday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We need to go out and win,” he said. “Out of three races we need to win one and be in the top five every night. Our goal in the 360 car is to win or at least be in the top five each race.”
