Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 21, 2017) – Brandon Hanks got off to a rough start last weekend at the 44th annual Spring Nationals.

Hanks had quickly maneuvered from sixth into fourth place during his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race on Friday night when a mechanical problem ended the race early at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

“I was about to pass a guy for third down the front straightaway on Lap 2 and I started losing power,” he said. “I looked at my gauges and everything was fine. Then the guy started pulling away from me. It didn’t take long for me to realize this thing was blowing up so I shut it off.”

The team called it a night following the problem and put in the spare engine for Saturday’s finale at the big track.

“We had some real good speed,” he said. “We had some minor things we could have worked on, but we were in the ballpark.”

Hanks finished second in a heat race, which advanced him into the third starting position in a qualifier.

“On the initial start I took the lead and we ran a lap and the caution came out,” he said. “They said we didn’t complete a lap and reverted back to the original start and this time the car stumbled. Just that little hesitation and I didn’t get a good restart and I was sixth coming out of turn two.”

Hanks placed seventh in the qualifier. That relegated him to a B Main, in which he recorded a third-place result to garner the final transfer into the back of the main event.

“I’ve only got one motor left,” he said. “I told my dad if I was making headway I’d keep going, but if I wasn’t going anywhere or we got strung out I was going to pull in.”

Hanks advanced a few positions before he elected to pull into the pits early. He was credited with an 18th-place result.
