Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Dec. 6, 2016) – The 2016 season was a special year for Chase Johnson, who scored five feature victories during a campaign that focused on consistency.

“I felt like we were a contender at every race no matter what car I was driving or who I was driving for,” he said. “I want to thank all of the sponsors, car owners and fans for supporting me. We had great success with every team. While we didn’t get a win in the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car, we showed great improvement and had some strong performances.”

Johnson posted a pair of podium finishes – including his first with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series – and four top fives while driving for Shawn and Cyndi Thomas at select 410ci winged sprint car events in the West. The team also ventured to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the Knoxville Nationals for the first time. Additionally, Johnson set a new track record at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., during a King of the West event.

“Shawn and Cyndi gave me a great opportunity and I’m so grateful for their support,” he said. “We made major improvements from 2015 to 2016 and I’m really excited to see how the progression will continue.”

Three of Johnson’s wins came in an outlaw kart for McClish Motorsports while the other two triumphs were in his family owned 360ci winged sprint car.

The two biggest moments of the season were the sprint car victories, which both came at Petaluma Speedway. The first was on May 14 when Johnson passed veteran Andy Forsberg for the lead coming to the white flag.

“That was our first win since the accident in 2013,” Johnson said. “That was huge to get that win and have the feeling of going to Victory Lane again. It was a special moment for me and my family and it was certainly a step in the right direction.”

Johnson returned to the Winner’s Circle approximately five months later when he claimed his first career Adobe Cup.

“We led flag to flag, but it was a tough race,” he said. “There were a ton of talented drivers there and the track conditions were tricky so we were on our toes until the checkered flag was waved. That was awesome to win such a big event and to back up our win earlier in the season.

“We had a great year. We were able to win some races and have some special moments. It feels good to be heading in the right direction. I can’t wait for the 2017 season to get here.”
