TULSA, Okla. (December 5, 2016) With the 32nd annual Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout just beyond the horizon, drivers from across North American, and indeed the world, are getting ready to converge on Tulsa, Okla. for the mecca of Micro/Mini Sprint racing.
Taking place under the roof of the River Spirit Expo Center, the 32nd edition of the Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout will kick off on Wednesday, December 28 with Practice at 9:00 A.M. leading into Heat Races at 5:30 P.M. (CT). With the discounted entry about to expire on Wednesday, December 7 and Midnight, the number of entries listed at the time of press is 627 with driver’s numbering 307 from 29 states as well as island state of Tasmania.
Of the 307 drivers currently entered, 19 of those have found their way to a Golden Driller. State by state, 13 call the state of Oklahoma home with California, Missouri, and Texas also represented. Four drivers have entered looking to defend their 2016 wins
Led by Blake Hahn, who scored his seventh Golden Driller in 2016, Hahn will again run in multiple divisions as will Jonathan Beason. Taking home Golden Driller No. 2 in 2016, the Broken Arrow native will try to add a third to his Trophy Case. Missouri's Miles Paulus and Oklahoma's Ryder Laplante each look to double up their totals in 2016. Laplante holds the record for the closest finish in Tulsa Shootout history as the transponder had to read back to the fourth decimal place to determine the winner in the 2016 Jr. Sprint A-Feature event.
The current record for driver participation was set in 2016 with 1,249 entries officially used among 615 drivers. The current rate of entry looks to put the count close to, or better for the 2017 edition.
