Montieth Looks to Protect ‘Pennsylvania Turf’ against the All Stars

Mechanicsburg, PA - Abottstown, PA - (April 30 & May 1, 2010) --- Brian Montieth would look to protect “PA turf” as the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions made their first stop of the season at the history laden Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway in the potent Premier Auto Works, Jerry Parrish-owned No. 21.
Friday evening, the hot shoe from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania was the 13th car out for qualifying, circling the famed Williams Grove Speedway ½-mile to quick-time out of the 43 cars that assembled in the pit area. Pennsylvania fans call him “The Edge” and for very good reason, as Brian charged from his sixth starting spot to second, in the Scott Zellers wrenched Triple X chassis in the first heat race.
Via his second place finish in his heat race, and after the pill draw, Montieth would start next to fellow Pennsylvania masher, Lance Dewease in the front row of the 30-lap $5,000 to win feature event.
Dewease and Montieth would set the pace and bring the field into turn three and charge off of turn four toward the green flag. Dewease would take the point, with Montieth in tow. Dewease would pull away, but a war for second place broke out between Brian and Kerry Madsen. The two drivers began to perform a high-speed chess duel, swapping positions with one another seemingly in every turn. Charging toward the checkered flag, Montieth and Madsen were side-by-side with Brian just edging out Madsen for second. “That was a close race, but we had a lot of fun out there. The guys did a fantastic job on the car all night long,” Montieth said.
Lincoln Speedway’s 3/8-mile dirt oval was next on the schedule for the Premier Auto Works team. The two-time Lincoln Speedway track champion was fast once again, ripping around the historic oval at 13.783. Brian’s time was third quick out of the 39 cars that pulled into Lincoln’s back gate.
The 36-year-old driver finished fourth in his heat race and by all accounts looked poised for another strong night of racing. Montieth and Madsen would meet again with both starting the 30-lap “A”-Main next to one another sharing the second row.
When the amber lights turned green, Montieth immediately began his charge toward the front. As the laps began to tick-off, Brian was in the top-five and battling for position, searching for racing room while racing with Aaron Ott, Alan Krimes, Kerry Madsen and Fred Rahmer. However, lap-26 would prove disastrous for the hard-charging Montieth. While running in the fourth position, Madsen spun and collected Brian, thus ending his night. “I wish our night didn’t end like this, but that’s racing. The car was fast all weekend and we will try it again next week,” an upbeat Montieth said. “I would like to thank all of our fans for their support – they make the racing part so much fun!”
