DW Promotions - Peoria, AZ - (October 25th, 2016) - There have been a lot of ups and downs this year for Jarrett Martin and Streaker Racing. 2016 started with the Winter Challenge where Jarrett picked up 2 wins and a 2nd place finish in the Micro portion of the series. After the Winter Challenge the newly formed Power 600 Series would kick off and Jarrett would find himself in 2nd place in the point standings after the first weekend. From there a part malfunction while leading would cost Jarrett a chance at a win, but he would rebound the next outing with a solid top 5. As Spring gave way to Summer, Jarrett faced the toughest stretch of his young career that included missing 4 out of 6 Main’s due to motor and electrical issues. But again, Jarrett would bounce back, this time picking up his 3rd win of the year in dominating fashion at Canyon Speedway's Father's Day Classic before heading over to California to go up against some of the best Micro racers in the country. Jarrett made 2 of the 4 Mains during Speedweek and came back to Arizona looking to build on the experience gained by going up against the tough competition and he did just that. He’d win his next 3 races. Leading every lap of both the Heats and Mains in Show Low and Las Cruces, NM and after dealing with another setback, causing him to miss his heat, he’d pick up his 3rd win in a row back in Show Low. But, from there Jarrett would face more adversity. Including a wild ride in Show Low the night following his win, a front end piece would break as he battled for the lead at Canyon, a flat tired would cost him to go down 2 laps the next race, he’d get tangled on the start of the Main with the leader as they entered turn 3 on the opening lap the next night and last week he had to pull into the infield as he led with only a few laps to go as the car started to overheat.
Jarrett has been able to respond to adversity all year and might have even had 3 chances to do so as the team was planning to head over to Las Cruces to run all 3 nights of the Fall Nationals, but the decision was made to stay in Arizona and finish out the year at Canyon Speedway Park for the Hank Arnold Memorial.
With pill draw determining Heat race lineups, Jarrett would pull a 5 and lineup on the pole for Heat 3. Jarrett and Kevin Keefer would race down the front stretch on the start, but it would be Keefer who would emerge with the lead out of turn 2. Keefer would put a little space between himself and Jarrett, but Jarrett would close the gap halfway through the quick 6 lap heat. Jarrett would get to the back of Keefer coming out of turn 4 as they headed to the checkers but Keefer would hold on to pick up the win.
Fortunately for Jarrett, the result would line him up on the pole for the 25 lap Main. Jarrett would get a good jump and clear outside pole sitter Mason Keefer as they entered turn 1. Kyle Huttenhow would challenge for the lead coming out turn 2 on lap 2 and the two would make contact down the back stretch. Jarrett would remain in the lead as they quickly approached lapped traffic. Mason Keefer would retake 2nd place and would again challenge Jarrett for the lead. Jarrett would fight off Keefer, who would lose the positon to Sprint Car veteran Mike Colegrove as they got back into heavy lap traffic. Colegrove was all over the back of Jarrett for the position as the flag man showed halfway to go and he would remain there for the rest of the race as Jarrett was able to drive mistake free and not allow Colegrove to take make the pass. Jarrett would end up leading all 25 laps to pick up the win!
Jarrett finishes up 2016 with 7 wins, 13 top 5’s, 15 top 10’s and 9 heat race wins.
