SOUTHWEST SPRINTS HEAD FOR CENTRAL ARIZONA SPEEDWAY SATURDAY; DAVIS WINS “HANK ARNOLD MEMORIAL”

Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande hosts this Saturday night’s USAC Southwest Sprint race where R.J. Johnson will try to take another step toward a fourth series title.

The Tempe, Arizona native has a 96-point lead over Charles Davis Jr. with only Saturday’s race and a pair of Nov. 4-5 races at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek remaining on the calendar.

Davis, of Buckeye, Ariz., scored his first USAC Southwest Sprint victory of the 2016 season Saturday night in the “Hank Arnold Memorial” at Canyon Speedway in Peoria, Ariz. He took the lead from Brian Hosford on lap 23 and led the final eight laps in the Massey Motorsports RSS Industries/Rod End Supply RSS/Don Ott entry to beat Mike Martin, Stevie Sussex, Hosford and Tye Mihocko.

Series point leader R.J. Johnson was the fastest qualifier and finished second, while Martin claimed the “Hard Charger” award, coming from seventh to second.

Johnson won last year’s Casa Grande outing, while Davis was the 2014 winner.
