Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (Oct. 21, 2016) – An aggressive move for the lead proved costly for Cody Freeman last Saturday at Gator Motorplex.
Freeman, who won his non-wing micro sprint heat race to start the feature on the outside of the front row, tried to pass the leader just past the halfway point of the main event.
“I ran second for the first half of the race,” he said. “I didn’t keep track of the laps and thought there were just a few to go and I had to make a move. I pushed it too hard and got into the leader and spun. I went back to 20th and came back to finish ninth. The winner was disqualified after the race. If I had just been patient … but we had a fast race car and I wanted to get the win.”
The ninth-place result was Freeman’s sixth top 10 of the season.
Freeman, who is playing on his eighth-grade football team, said the race team isn’t sure if it will compete again before the Tulsa Shootout at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla., in January. However, given that he has scored a pair of top-10 finishes in his last two outings, Freeman is pushing to attain more seat time.
“We haven’t quite figured out what we want to do,” he said. “I would like to race a little more before the Shootout.”
