USAC’s Western HPD Midgets and Eastern Midgets are in action this week, with races at Las Vegas, Nev. and Spotsylvania, Va. respectively.

Jesse Love IV, Toni Breidinger and Andrew Layser will take point leads into this week’s races. Love is the overall Western HPD leader, while Breidinger tops the Western HPD Pavement standings. Layser clings to a slim three-point leader over defending Eastern Midget Champ Chris Lamb.

Love IV, of Menlo Park, Calif., is the 2016 USAC Western HPD Dirt Midget Champion after winning Saturday night’s 20-lap finale at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Love passed Jet Davison on lap six and led the rest of the way to beat Davison, Randi Pankratz, Ashley Hazelton and Joel Rayborne. Hazelton and Antonia Boscacci finished 2-3 in the final dirt standings.

This Saturday’s Western HPD race is at the paved Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while the Eastern Midgets return to Dominion Raceway in Virginia after suffering a July rainout.
