Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Oct. 19, 2016) – Kevin Mingus ended his rookie season on dirt with his best sprint car result last Saturday at Millstream Speedway, where Mingus charged from 18th to a seventh-place finish.

“It was our first time at that track and our first time back in the sprint car in over a month,” he said. “I’m as pleased with a seventh-place run as I was with the win we got in the late model this year.”

The night began with struggles in his heat race as Mingus dropped from the pole position to an eighth-place finish.

“I just was trying to get acquainted with the track and get my feet back under me in a sprint car,” he said. “The track was fast and right now we don’t have the motor for a tacky track. We made a couple of adjustments for the feature and watched the track with the winged and non-wing sprints and how it slicked off and that told me where to run. The track played to our favor. It was a lot like what we experienced at Limaland earlier this year.”

In the feature Mingus was able to avoid several crashes at the start after having to begin the race on the outside of the ninth row.

“A car spun in front of me and I was able to get to the wall and avoid it,” he said. “The track was nearly completely blocked and the red came out. I coasted to the top of turn two and was able to find where my crew was sitting and they let me know other than a little damage on the front wing the rest of the car was okay.”

The good news was Mingus restarted 12th.

“I just stuck to the bottom and was able to rocket off and pick off some cars entering the turns,” he said. “The cautions throughout the feature played in our favor. It was the best outing we had with the sprint car all year. If there would have been another five or 10 laps I think we could have had a top-five car.”

With his rookie year on dirt finished and his first year in a full-bodied late model complete, Mingus is already working toward 2017.

“We made huge gains in all aspects of our racing programs this year,” he said. “We will sit down and talk about what we need to do to get better next year and I can’t wait for it to start.”
