CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (Oct 13th, 2016) Matt Covington had a strong 2nd place finish this past Saturday at 81 Speedway.
After a deep draw, Covington rallied in the heat to finish 4th from the 7th starting spot.
The heat race results would give Covington enough passing points to start the A-main from the 6th starting spot.
In the feature, Matt got a great jump on the start and found himself in the top-5 in the first few laps. Matt was able to battle inside the top-5 most of the race before moving into third by the mid race point. Running third as the race continued to click away, Covington caught a break as the leader came to a stop on the back stretch, bunching the field up for one more dash before the checkers. On the restart Covington wasn’t able to get alongside the leader to pull of the pass and ultimately had to settle for the runner up spot.
“This past weekend was a good run for us and a very solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a very good car in the heat and also in the feature. I wanted to win that one and hated not being able to get the win, having to settle for second. We had a shot late in the race after a caution, but I just couldn’t quite get the run I needed to make a clean pass. But we are still proud of the effort and I would just like to thank Tyler and all our supporters that stuck with us this year. Our goal is to grab a win before the year is over and we will just keep plugging away, working hard to see if we can close out the year strong. I am looking forward to this weekend. I love going to Dallas and its one of my best racetracks over the last couple years.”
