Inside Line Promotions – FORNEY, Texas (Oct. 10, 2016) – Fresh out of high school and new to the sport of sprint car racing, Travis Rilat invaded Devil’s Bowl Speedway in the fall of 1995 for the first time.
“I want to say we made the show,” he said. “That was a pretty big feat back then.”
Rilat is returning to the unique half-mile oval this Friday and Saturday for the Winter Nationals featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. It will be his final event of the season in his No. 29, which hasn’t raced since the middle of May. Rilat’s last race overall was a little more than a month ago.
“Typically you adapt pretty quick,” he said. “It’s like riding a bike. You don’t forget how to do it. I will say with not being out there running day to day operations with our team it takes a little for everyone to get back in their routine.
“I don’t think it will affect our ability to win. Pretty much I have the same guys who have been with me for years so we should be fine.”
Rilat has earned at least one top-10 finish at the track during each of the past 11 seasons. His season-best result at Devil’s Bowl Speedway this year is a 14th-place finish.
“This weekend is extremely big because we’ll have all of our friends, family, sponsors out for this race,” he said. “This is one of the bigger events for us. It’s literally a 10-minute drive from our shop to the race track.
“(The key is) just like any other place, it’s drawing the right heat and being in a good position will mean more than anything. We’ve been around this place. I started racing here in 1995. I think we know the track. It’s about making sure we’re on top of things.”
