Bryan Clauson was honored as Verizon IndyCar’s “Most Popular Driver” at the series’ year-end awards banquet Tuesday night at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis.
Clauson received an outpouring of support in the online fan vote that took place on IndyCar’s website which determined the winner of the award. Clauson won the award handily and received a standing ovation at the ceremony from the throng of IndyCar drivers, crews, sponsors and fans in the audience.
Bryan’s fiancée Lauren Stewart, mother Diana, sister Taylor and brother-in-law Zach McLean were welcomed on stage to accept the award that was introduced by Bryan’s 2016 Indianapolis 500 teammate and fellow Noblesville, Indiana native Conor Daly.
Clauson passed away on August 7, one day after his accident while leading the “Belleville (Kans.) Midget Nationals” – a race in which he was a three-time winner.
Clauson made three Indianapolis 500 starts in 2012, 2015 and 2016, finishing 23rd in his final appearance, leading three laps on his way to a 23rd place finish for Dale Coyne Racing.
