For the first time in its history IMCA will sanction the Iron Cup sponsored by J&J Fitting at Park Jefferson. The super bowl of racing in the Siouxland should see a large field of cars on hand to compete for the coveted Iron Cup trophies. New for this year is a change in format requested by the drivers which will see drivers compete in a complete show on both Saturday and Sunday. Each show will pay a complete purse each day, with SignMaster Modifieds paying $1,000 to win, J&J Fitting Stock Cars $600 to win, Schaeffer Oil Sport Mods and Fox 620 Hobby Stocks $500 to win and Pedersen Machine Sport Compacts $200 to win, Saturday and again on Sunday. The driver with the best combined finish between Saturday and Sunday will be awarded the Iron Cup trophy for 2016. Drivers are not required to participate in both nights but the overall Iron Cup champions will be awarded by averaging the combined finish over both nights. Registration is open and can be found at http://parkjeffersonspeedway.myracepass.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=336403. A number of drivers have qualified for the $20 vouchers off registration. These vouchers were awarded at the Road to the Iron Cup events on June 25 and September 3. Vouchers are not required at registration. For a complete list of Road to Iron Cup participants go to http://parkjeffersonspeedway.myracepass.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=336404.
Joining the IMCA classes on the ISTATE Truck Center of Sioux City Super Saturday will be the final round of the North vs. South Sprint Car Shootout between the Ne 360’s and the MSTS. The event will serve as the season championship for the MSTS Sprint Cars. The sprint car portion was originally scheduled for Sunday but was moved to Saturday with the cancellation of the MSTS event at Badlands.
Also slated are the Nebraska Modified Lites, who are currently scheduled for Saturday night. Discussions are underway to potentially move this portion of the event to Sunday. A final decision will be made later this week.
With the fall season upon us racing will start earlier than normal. Gates will open both days at 2 pm, with hot laps at 4:30 pm and racing slated for 5:30 or at the completion of hot laps. Saturday will see the local band Mrs. Begley and the Boys performing prior to race opening under the overhang.
Tickets for each night are $17 for adults, $5 for children 6-16 and seniors 70+, with kids 5 and under free. Pit passes are $30 both nights. For more information on driver registration, go to or call 712-202-5540.
