Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Trey Starks earned his best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result of the season last Saturday to cap a doubleheader at Skagit Speedway.

Starks kicked off the two-day event at the high-banked oval in Alger, Wash., on Friday by qualifying eighth quickest. He then placed fourth in a heat race to lock into the 11th starting position in the main event.

“The track was rough so you had to be careful,” he said. “We survived through our heat, but we had some issues in the main. We had a nose wing get knocked down early. It was pretty tricky. It was really tough to run back in the field.”

Starks ended with a 15th-place result.

He returned to the track on Saturday and improved the results every time he hit the track. Starks timed in fourth quickest in qualifying before placing second in a heat race, which locked him into the dash.

“We had a better qualifying run and we ran second in the heat to transfer into the dash,” he said. “We got a good dash draw and started on the front row. Unfortunately, we got called for jumping the start and were penalized a row.”

Starks placed fourth in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“We were running around seventh and racing pretty hard with (Jason) Solwold,” he said. “We made a mistake going into turn three and the car looped around. We restarted at the back and came out ninth. It was a solid night to get a top 10 with the Outlaws.”

Starks finished ninth, which was his best World of Outlaws result since August 2015.

Starks swapped engines on Sunday to compete with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series at Grays Harbor Raceway, where he qualified second quickest and placed fourth in a heat race to lock into the feature inversion.

“We redrew the seven so we started seventh,” he said. “We took a pretty big swing at it because starting seventh we couldn’t just be ok. We were pretty aggressive with the setup. It ended up paying off. We just weren’t able to get Solwold. He was a little faster than us.”

Starks maneuvered to a runner-up result, which marked his 13th top five of the season.

Monday’s World of Outlaws event at Grays Harbor Raceway rained out.

Starks is slated to compete Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., with the World of Outlaws and Friday and Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., for the NSA Shootout.
