Wednesdays With Wayne- Jackson Nationals in the Books!

The Two-C Racing team and driver Wayne Johnson were busy last weekend with double-duty at the Jackson Naionals at Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota. The Oklahoma City driver pulled down three top ten finishes in his four features contested. The team plans on heading to the dirt track at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth, Texas with the ASCS-Red River region Saturday, before returning north to race with the World of Outlaws in Spencer, Iowa and Cameron, Missouri next week.

Last Friday saw the prelim for the Lucas Oil ASCS series. Wayne would go from third to second in his heat. He started 13th and ran ninth in the feature. “The car was good in the heat,” he says. “The track was pretty nice. I just didn’t tighten up enough for the feature. I was way too loose.”

The finale for ASCS was on Sunday. “We switched to the Eagle (chassis) for Sunday night there and ran the 410 in the Maxim,” says Wayne. “We threw some things at it and really didn’t make many adjustments all night long. We started dead last in the heat and made it up to fourth.”

Wayne started 15th in the feature and charged to an eighth place finish. “We were o.k. in the feature,” he says. “There was way too much racetrack all night really. I think after it rubbered up on Saturday with the 410’s, they may have overcompensated a bit Sunday.”

Saturday’s prelim for the National Sprint League saw him time 16th quick. That came with a lap at the end after getting sideways and clipping the turn two tires. He would then run second in his heat. He would checker 13th in the main event. “It rubbered down on Saturday,” says Wayne. “We were pretty good in the heat race, but we just couldn’t move forward in the feature after the rubber showed up.”

It was a strong night for Wayne Sunday in the 410. He started by winning his heat. He would follow that up with a ninth place finish in the finale. “The 410 was definitely the better deal for us this weekend,” he says. “On Sunday, it was probably the best 410 I’ve had in a long time. To be perfectly honest, the car was way better than the driver. I wanted to run the bottom, but (Danny) Lasoski was down there. I just couldn’t get there and we ended up ninth. Overall, I was happy with the weekend.”

He is looking forward to next week’s events with the Outlaws in Spencer and Cameron. “We just haven’t done a whole lot of 410 stuff this year, and I’m rusty,” says Wayne. “I’m a step behind the car, but that’s better than the other way around. We’re excited about next week and running with the Outlaws. Sunday was the best car we’ve had all year.”
