Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Sept. 6, 2016) – A broken bleeder may have cost SawBlade.com driver Tommy Bryant his first win of the season last Saturday at Battleground Speedway.

“I had a really good race going with Channin (Tankersley),” he said. “I led several times and we were both racing hard through lapped traffic. I found a line that worked really well and was right on his bumper just waiting for a mistake. Then we had a red and the right rear bleeder failed. The car got really tight in the corners … just pushed right up the track and I lost a lot of ground and ended up fourth.

“It’s unfortunate. I cleaned and checked that bleeder just before the race. It’s just one of those deals. We need a little good luck. We looked at the video later and we were all over (Tankersley). The car got better and better and when I found the right line I could get aggressive to his outside. It’s nice to know we can compete with those guys.”

Bryant opened the night by winning a heat race before he closed it with a fourth-place finish. It was the team’s 10th top five of the season.

The following night was set up to conclude the ASCS Gulf South Region season at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. However, the event was rained out and will be made up this Saturday.

“I can’t wait to get back to racing this weekend,” Bryant said. “I’m pumped after how fast we were Saturday. I can’t thank Brad Benic and my crew guy Austin for all their hard work. They gave me an awesome race car Saturday. I want to thank the Coopers. They are not only my owners but my family. Of course I want to thank my wife for all the patience and support.”

Bryant is currently ranked second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings with one race remaining.

“All Channin has to do is show up next weekend and he wins the Gulf South championship,” he said. “After next week we might race three or four more times, we haven’t really decided. We only have one car and one motor left so we’ll take it one race at a time.”
