Inside Line Promotions – QUINTER, Kan. (Aug. 31, 2016) – Zach Blurton is ready to put the month of August in his rearview mirror. Although he recorded four top-10 finishes during the month, Blurton had bigger aspirations.

“For some reason we struggled to find speed this month,” he said. “We even tried a flat wing this past Saturday. I’ve never tried a flat wing and I didn’t like it. The car was squirrely and loose. We were on a roll there for a while. I don’t know what happened.”

The month started on Aug. 5 at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Lacrosse, Kan., with the United Rebel Sprint Car Series. Blurton recorded a 10th-place finish. The next night Blurton carried a lot of confidence into the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan., and he scored a seventh-place run.

“I really had a lot of confidence and was excited to go to Belleville,” he said. “We finished second there seven times last year. It was a major disappointment in how we ran.”

Blurton racked up a sixth-place result at Stockton Speedway in Stockton, Kan., on Aug. 12 before taking the wing off and competing with the USAC Southwest Region at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., on Aug. 20.

“I got up to eighth and fell back on the last restart and finished 10th,” he said. “Still not too bad considering we don’t do a lot of non-wing racing.”

Last Saturday Blurton wrapped up the month back at Belleville High Banks, where he earned a fifth-place finish.

“I turned my fastest lap on Lap 17 … it took me that long to get used to the flat wing,” he said.

A fresh month is just what Blurton needs as he is prepared to compete in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals this Friday through Sunday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb.

“I’m so pumped to get back to Eagle,” he said. “There are 140 cars pre-entered and we all race on Friday. After qualifying we have to qualify for the Race of Champions. The top-nine finishers in Friday’s feature are locked into the championship feature on Sunday. The rest try again on Saturday and the top nine from that feature are locked into Sunday’s feature plus they run the Race of Champions on Saturday.”

Blurton is currently ranked second in the United Rebel Sprint Series National standings and second in both the Colorado Region and Kansas Region standings.
