After three straight nights at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway last weekend, the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship returns to the quarter-mile dirt oval this Friday night to compete in the “Bryan Clauson Celebration of Life” non-points “special event,” which was originally scheduled for last Wednesday, but was postponed due to massive amounts of rain and tornadoes in the area. This Friday’s race will feature free general admission to all!
Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, Ala. starred in last week’s “Sprint Car Smackdown V” at Kokomo, winning Thursday’s 30-lap prelim and Saturday night’s big 40-lap finale.
Thomas trailed Tyler Courtney for five laps Saturday, then led the final 35 laps in his Franklin Equipment/CEP Concrete DRC/Chevy. Chad Boespflug finished second ahead of Chris Windom, Dave Darland and Kyle Cummins.
Thomas led all 30 laps of Thursday’s prelim to beat Windom, Darland, Chase Stockon and Justin Grant.
Friday’s prelim saw C.J. Leary of Greenfield, Ind. record his initial series triumph in the Marion Underground/Zeller Construction DRC/Dynotech entry. He led wire-to-wire in the 30-lapper to beat Thomas Meseraull, Courtney, Shane Cottle and Boespflug.
Saturday night’s eight-car B & W Auto Mart “King of the Hill” shootout saw Courtney defeat Meseraull to earn the pole starting spot for Saturday’s championship feature.
ProSource fast qualifiers at Kokomo included Meseraull and Boespflug, while KSE Hard Chargers included Jon Stanbrough, Robert Ballou and Tyler Thomas.
General admission for Friday night’s event is FREE! Pit passes are $30. However, all participating drivers on Friday night will receive a free pit pass thanks to Allstar Performance. Furthermore, all drivers will be provided five concession vouchers courtesy of Diversified Machine, Inc. (DMI).
The feature winner of Friday night’s event will earn a coveted custom-built trophy as well as a $3000 top prize for collecting the win in the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car non-points “Special Event.”
Friday night’s event begins with hot laps at 7:15pm with racing slated to start at 8pm.
