Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (Aug. 25, 2016) – Having started his racing career on asphalt, Kevin Mingus is finding out dirt tracks not only change from week to week, but often drastically during a race night.

Throughout the last few months Mingus had a handle on a slick dirt track, but Mother Nature threw him and the Huber Motorsports team a curveball throughout last week with wet weather.

“For the first time this year the tracks retained water all night and that threw us off a bit,” Mingus said. “We had a good setup for dry slick. We were comfortable, but the tracks the last week were completely different.”

Last Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, Mingus had a great pill draw to start third in his heat race.

“I got into the cushion too hard and fell back,” he said. “In the B Main we held our own. It was a great learning experience for us. If you look where we were at the beginning of the year and where we are now … we are competing and that’s encouraging.”

The next night Mingus got behind the wheel of his late model on the asphalt of Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio.

“Just wasn’t a good night,” he said. “We’ll put that behind us and know we are better than our results.”

On Tuesday Mingus was one of 37 teams to help bring sprint car racing back to the Sandusky County Fair at Fremont Speedway. It marked the first time in 40 years that sprint cars competed during the annual fair.

“That was the coolest atmosphere I’ve ever been involved in,” he said. “All our rigs were down the hill … we pitted in the infield so no one knew based on equipment who had the best stuff. Even though we didn’t make the feature it was just a great experience.

“We aren’t that far off. This 305 division around here is just so tough. You make one little mistake and it’s impossible to make up for it.”

Mingus will be back on the dirt in his 305 sprint car this Friday at Attica Raceway Park and in the late model on asphalt Saturday at Columbus Motor Speedway.

“Saturday is free general admission,” he said. “Park and come in and watch. It’s the last season for the track and I hope everyone enjoys the final three races.

“We got the engine issues fixed on the sprint car and I’m excited about applying what we’ve learned. We found some issues in the fueling system and I think Kurt (Huber) has got it all ironed out. I can’t wait to get back on the dirt next week.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Sandusky County Fair Race

“Hats off to the fair board, the sponsors, promoter Rich Farmer … everyone who had anything to do with getting that race scheduled,” Mingus said. “It was important for the track, for the 305 sprints, for the fair. It was historical to have sprint cars back after 40 years and I hope it starts a new tradition. It was one of the most incredible atmospheres I’ve ever been a part of and hope to be a part of next year.”

Mingus would also like to thank Huber Machine Werx, Hillbilly Rod Shop, Brandon Oakley Racing, DB3 Imaging and Midwest Equipment Company Crane Rental.
