Inside Line Promotions – THE WOODLANDS, Texas (Aug. 23, 2016) – Tommy Bryant was excited at his chances for an ASCS Gulf South Region championship run going into last weekend.
After sitting idle for a month, Bryant and the SawBlade.com sponsored Cooper Motorsports team were focused on the final four events for the regional championship. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and washed out the races on Friday and Saturday.
“Sad to say, but with only two races left it looks like we’re running for second,” Bryant said. “Channin (Tankersley) would have to not show up for one and finish last in the other and we all know neither of those things are going to happen with the season he’s having.”
The final two events of the ASCS Gulf South Region are Sept. 3 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, and Sept. 4 at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. Both nights will offer teams $3,000-to-win, $310-to-start A-Mains with a $1,000 bonus to sweep the weekend thanks to Challenger Drilling and Cooper Racing.
Bryant hasn’t raced since July 23 and he isn’t sure if the Cooper Motorsports team will compete this coming weekend.
“We really haven’t discussed our plans,” he said. “I’d really like to race, but there’s nothing close this weekend. I’d hate to travel somewhere for a one-day deal and tear something up for the last two ASCS races.”
The ASCS Gulf South Region has experienced six rainouts in 2016.
“It’s been a tough year,” Bryant said. “I guess these last two races we will quit worrying about points and get aggressive and go for wins. Last year was the first of my career we didn’t win a race and we haven’t won this year. I’m more than ready to get that monkey off our backs.”
