Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Aug. 15, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi was in contention for a podium finish last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway before he was caught up in a late-race crash.
Scelzi kicked off the micro sprint event by qualifying third quickest. He then advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make the feature inversion, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“We were fighting mechanical problems all night,” he said. “We were running third with about three laps to go. The guy in front of us wrecked and we were involved in it. He spun backwards and backed up the track and pinned me between him and the fence.”
The incident occurred in turn one and the damage was too much for Scelzi to resume racing. He was credited with a 15th-place finish.
“It bent the left front radius rod so the arm fell off the axle and we didn’t have any front suspension,” he said. “It was a really rough race track. It would have been pretty good to hold on for third, but sometimes that happens in racing.”

Scelzi is slated to return to Plaza Park Raceway this Friday before hopping into a sprint car on Saturday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., for the Johnny Key Classic with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – MicroBlue Bearings
Ceramic bearings used in racing are constructed using conventional hardened steel races, but the steel balls are replaced with (much rounder and lighter) ceramic balls. MicroBlue Bearings improves them by superfinishing the steel races, then coats the races and the ceramic balls with MicroBlue®, the only coating that changes the way lubricants work. For more information, visit http://www.MicroBlueBearings.com.
“We’ve been working with MicroBlue Bearings for a few years,” Scelzi said. “They’ll coat different parts to reduce friction. It’s the latest and greatest deal and we’re proud to work with them.”
Scelzi would also like to thank Whipple Superchargers, Fuel Delivery Services, Inc., Fowler Packing, Panella Trucking, Carlucci Transport, Red Rose Transportation, Roth Motorsports, Scelzi Enterprises, Schoenfeld Headers, Metric Cycles Racing Engines, Red Line Oil, Panella Racing Engines, Weld Wheels, FK Rod Ends, K&N Filters, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, KW Suspensions, Worldwide Bearings, Sweet Blast Tech, Todd Jorgensen, G&J Truck Sales, Sparco, Simpson Race Products, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Red Fuel, Meridian Steel, Kenny’s Components, Southern Pacific Farms, Auto Meter, Allstar Performance and Adams Performance for their continued support.
