Scotty Thiel - Doomed at Dodge followed by Hard Charge Top 10 at PDTR

Scotty Thiel and the #64 STM team raced a double header weekend with the IRA Sprints. Night one started at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI where Scotty was running in the top three before a nozzle line fell off and forced him to pull off for the night. The team followed that event up at Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds on Saturday where they started off the night changing engines but later found out a fuel line was the gremlin. Scotty would charge his way through the field and overcame the night with a top 10 finish in the A-main event.

Friday night at Dodge County Speedway, Scotty drew a 66 pill which placed him to go out 21st in the qualifying order. 23 cars were in attendance for the IRA Sprint portion of the evening. Scotty laid down a 17.486 lap time which was 7th quick overall. He would go on to start the heat race event in the fourth position. On the start, the lead car did not get on the throttle right away and Scotty got into the back of that car and fell back several positions as they went into turn one. After coming out of turn two, Thiel was back to the seventh position. Within the next six laps, Scotty moved forward and got back into the fourth position before the checkered flag flew. This locked him into the 25 lap A-main event and also into the nights redraw. However, the worse pill was picked for Scotty as he would go on to start the main event in the 10th position. The field took the green for the 25 lap A-main event. Scotty charged up to the fifth spot in the first corner on the first lap. He continued to build up his momentum and move forward before a caution came out. The field lined back up and after taking the green flag again, Scotty continued to move forward. He drove into the third spot and had his sight on the leaders. Just shy of the halfway mark of the event, Scotty’s engine made a lower tone noise and he quickly pulled into the infield. His night would end at that point in time and ended up being scored in the 17th position. After the crew looked over the car, it appeared that a nozzle line fell off of the motor which pushes fuel into the cylinders. The noise came from one cylinder not having fuel getting pushed into it. “I made the right call to pull in after I heard the engine change tune. It was an easy fix though and I could have made it back out. I’m just disappointed for my guys and partners behind us. We had a fast car all night long and we weren’t even halfway.” Stated a disappointed Thiel after the conclusion of the event.

The team then travelled back home and prepared for Saturday night’s action at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI. Scotty drew a 56 pill for qualifying which placed him to be 29th out of 30 cars for qualifying. As the drivers were getting pushed out for engine heat, Scotty’s car would not fire off. He came back to the pits and the crew went to work to figure out the problem. They made a few changes but the car still would not fire. The decision was made to change the engine before qualifying and they missed their hot lap session. The engine was changed quickly but they still encountered the same issue as the engine would not fire. The team finally made a fuel line change and that solved all of the problems. It appeared that the main fuel line had some issue where it sucked air and did not allow the fuel to flow properly, thus, making the engine not receive enough fuel to start. Unfortunately this discovery happened a few minutes too late and Scotty would miss his qualifying attempt. He knew he would have his work cut out for him but this was the start of his nightly mission. He would start 10th in the heat race event. Top six transferred into the 27 lap A-main event. Heat race winners would go on to the redraw. The green flag flew and Scotty stormed into turn one in the middle of the track. He picked off three cars right away and continued his charge down the backstretch. He worked the bottom groove and slowly picked off cars one by one. A late race caution came out with three laps to go and Scotty had charged his way into the third position! After going back to green he made an attempt to move into second but slid back a little bit and lost some ground. He would go on to settle for a third place finish which would lock him into the A-main event but he would start deep in the field due to not having a qualifying time. Scotty started 19th in the A-main event. 27 lap event for the Frank Filskov Memorial event. At the drop of the green flag, Scotty charged to the top side of the track and began his mission forward. He picked off several cars early on before moving back down to the bottom and made more progress. He moved into the top ten with only 6 laps to go and a caution came out one lap later. This allowed the field to get bunched back up. After the restart, Thiel continued his pace on the bottom and picked off a few more positions but struggled to get around a car with two laps to go and would end up settling for an 8th place finish. “It was a respectable night for our team after starting off way behind the 8 ball. We struggled figuring out the issue on the car and just one fuel line was the issue. Our luck has not been good lately and it’s been a little frustrating for everyone. We had a really great car tonight, these guys worked their tails off literally all night long. We were better than 8th tonight, I just struggled at the end to move up a few more spots. We have a weekend off now with the Nationals coming up so this will be a great time for us to regroup and focus on the triple header weekend coming up next.” Stated Thiel.

The Scott Thiel Motorsports team will be off this coming weekend as the annual Knoxville Nationals are on tap. They will return back to action with the IRA Sprints on Friday August 19th at Wilmot Raceway for the Kenosha County Fair event. The team will again be at Wilmot on Saturday August 20th and they will follow the weekend up on Sunday at Angell Park in Sun Prairie, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
