Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 7, 2016) – Henry Van Dam captured his fourth podium finish of the season on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

The night began with Van Dam qualifying seventh quickest around the 3/8-mile oval.

“The track was pretty quick and I didn’t get nearly aggressive enough,” he said. “I knew I left a bunch on the table.”

That lined him up on the pole of a heat race.

“I got a good start and moved around a little bit,” he said. “Colton (Heath) was able to peek inside of me. He passed me in the corner, but I got a better run off the corner. I got around him and then got comfortably in the lead.”

Van Dam won the heat race. Unfortunately, the No. 6 was drawn for the feature inversion and Van Dam missed making the inversion by only one spot. That lined him up on seventh for the 25-lap main event.

“We weren’t that good to start,” he said. “I passed a car and gave it back. I did that for the first 10 laps. I just floundered around where I was at. I was able to get the wing back and start running some better lines. I started picking some guys off. You could really only slide guys in turns one and two. That’s where I got it all done one by one. About Lap 16 we had a restart and a bolt came out of the nose wing and it pulled it back. I thought we had something for the leader even with that problem. We had a restart on Lap 20 and I was able to just get inside him, but wasn’t able to clear him.”

Van Dam ended with a runner-up result for the second time this season.
