Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 2, 2016) – Travis Rilat came close to recording his first victory of the season in the United States last weekend during the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals at Skagit Speedway.
Rilat, who was driving for Richard Saumure, registered a top five during the preliminary night before he led a majority of the main event during the finale.
“It wasn’t a bad weekend, but it just wasn’t what we wanted,” he said.
The doubleheader began on Friday with Rilat qualifying 10th quickest. He then won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to lock himself into the 10th starting position in the main event.
“I had a decent run Friday night,” he said. “We got in the show, but didn’t get the car going until later in the race. I think the setup didn’t come on until the last half of the race.”
Rilat maneuvered to a fifth-place result, which was only one spot shy of locking into Saturday’s main event.
Instead he was forced to start from scratch during the finale. It began with Rilat timing in fourth quickest during qualifying before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 1 to garner the pole position for the main event.
“We had a good car all night long,” he said. “We led 27 out of 40 laps. About Lap 20 the nose wing busted on the front post. That kind of screwed everything up. It made it kind of undrivable.”
Rilat faded to just outside the top 10 on the last lap when there was a pileup in turn four that he missed to gain a few positions and finish seventh. That gives him 17 top 10s in 23 races at Skagit Speedway since 2013.
He and Saumure will return to action Aug. 19-20 at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., with the ASCS Frontier Region.
