This Saturday, July 30th, the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Cars are back in action at Perris Auto Speedway for a fantastic night of racing. The battle for the championship is heating up as there have been seven different winners in seven shows. Promoted by Don Kazarian, the eighth point race will also feature the PAS Senior Sprint Cars and PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars. Located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds in Perris, California, the spectator gates at "America's Premier Dirt Track" will open at 5:00pm and racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. NOTICE TO USAC/CRA COMPETITORS: The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier tires. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is also the current legal tire with the USAC West Coast, USAC SouthWest, and VRA Sprint Cars. Cars must pass a tech inspection and one-way radios are mandatory for drivers. USAC/CRA charges a $25 entry fee to all competitors and the series rule book can be found online at www.usacracing.com.
Since March 6, 2004, the Lake Perris Fairgrounds has held 186 USAC/CRA Sprint Car events. “The Demon” Damion Gardner leads all drivers with 37 victories and Nic Faas set the one-lap qualifying record of 15.833 seconds on February 25, 2012. In the five previous “home track” shows, Indiana’s Bryan Clauson, New Mexico’s Josh Hodges, and California’s Austin Williams, Richard Vander Weerd, and “Showtime” Danny Sheridan have already claimed victory. Returning to USAC/CRA’s “home track,” Richard Vander Weerd (Visalia, California) leads the standings and has a 19-point advantage. Piloting the family owned #10 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Richard scored fourth at the Perris “Firecracker 30” on July 2nd. At press time, the 2011 USAC West Coast Champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 51 feature laps led to his credit. Currently tied with Robert Ballou, Levi Jones, Bud Kaeding, Blake Miller, and Matt Mitchell on the series win list, Vander Weerd will be looking for his seventh career triumph.
After running third at the Perris “Firecracker 30,” “The Demon” Damion Gardner (Concord, California) has climbed to second in the point chase. Racing Mark Alexander’s #4 Scott Sales Company / Weld Racing Spike, Gardner has posted four heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 28 feature laps led on the season. The four-time champion leads all USAC/CRA drivers with 65 career wins and will have his sights set on his first victory of the year.
Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) ranks third in the chase for the championship. Driving the BR Performance owned #91R HD Industries / Lee & Norma Leonard Maxim, Roa claimed 19th at Perris after an early exit. To date, the defending 360 Western World Champion has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, six top-10 finishes, and eight feature laps led in the campaign. Brody has one career USAC/CRA triumph and will be looking for his first win of 2016.
Jake Swanson (Anaheim, California) sits fourth in the USAC/CRA point standings. Piloting Tom and Laurie Sertich's #92 Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror / Clackamas Rigging & Transfer Victory, Swanson ran 10th in the July 2nd main event. At press time, the 2012 Rookie of the Year has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, one Brown & Miller Racing Solutions Semi-Main win, and seven top-10 finishes on the season. This Saturday, Jake will have his sights on the first USAC/CRA victory of his career.
Mike Spencer (Temecula, California) is fifth in the championship point standings. Racing the Gansen Engineering Motorsports owned #4S Trench Shoring / Sander Engineering Maxim, Spencer ran fifth at the Perris “Firecracker 30.” To date, the five-time champion has seven top-10 finishes and 17 feature laps led on the year. Mike ranks second on the USAC/CRA win list with 37 victories and will be looking for his first win of the season.
Currently tied for seventh in points, Max Adams (Loomis, California) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Trent Williams (Victorville, California), Andrew Sweeney (Lomita, California), and Mikey Lovas (Wildomar, California) are also in contention.

Bender, Jace Vander Weerd, Verne Sweeney, “Thunder” Tommy Malcolm, Anthony Lopiccolo, Ronnie Gardner, Matt Mitchell, “The Flying Peanut” Parker Colston, and more.
