Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 25, 2016) – Patrick Dills extended his lead in the Cottage Grove Speedway Extreme Sprints championship standings following another strong performance last Saturday.

Dills opened the event by setting quick time during qualifying at the quarter-mile oval before he maneuvered from fourth to second place in both the dash and a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“In the main event I got held up on the start,” he said. “The guy who started second didn’t really go on the start. I think I dropped back to fifth, but I got to second in six or seven laps.”

Dills rebounded from the slow start to advance into second place by the midpoint of the feature.

“There was one corner I picked two of them off on the top in turns one and two,” he said. “Everyone was running the bottom so I had to make something work and I stayed at the top. I kept trying to make it work lap after lap and eventually it did.”

Dills closed the gap to the leader before being slowed in traffic, which resulted in a runner-up result.

“The leader was cruising around the bottom and I was banging the curb,” he said. “The track was good early on the bottom and I stayed on the top the whole race. When I got to second at one point I thought I was in the lead because he was so far ahead. The lapped cars were all over the place so I had a little trouble anticipating what they were going to do.”

The second-place finish marked the sixth top five and 10th top 10 of the season for Dills, who will return to action at Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday during a $1,000-to-win Extreme Sprints event.
