Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (July 25, 2016) – Trey Starks will make his season debut at Knoxville Raceway this Saturday.

Starks will drive for Jeff McCall during the National Sprint League event at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, where he will return the following weekend for the Capitani Classic before tackling the 56th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals Aug. 10-13.

“Our hope going into this weekend is to get some solid laps to get ready for the Nationals,” Starks said. “I haven’t been to Knoxville in a while. I have a few laps there, but not a ton. I’m excited to get there and see what we can do. We’ve shown a lot of speed in the No. 23 car this year.”

Starks spent last weekend in Central Pennsylvania driving for Scott Gobrecht during the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader began on Friday with Starks qualifying 19th quickest in his group. He advanced from 10th to eighth place in a heat race and from 18th to 12th in the Last Chance Showdown.

“On Friday we were just way, way off in qualifying,” he said. “Basically everything we could do wrong we did. That put us way behind all night. We ended up gaining spots in the heat and the B Main, but when you put yourself behind that far it puts you in a really tough situation.”

Starks returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday when he timed in 13th quickest in his group. He again placed eighth in a heat race before finishing sixth in the Last Chance Showdown to miss transferring into the main event by only two positions.

“We were a little better, but still kind of the same thing,” he said. “We improved, but weren’t where we needed to be. We came up a couple of spots shy of making the main. It was a pretty good field we had running with us so it would have been nice to transfer. We need to find speed somewhere. I think Williams Grove is the toughest track in the world and I don’t have a ton of laps there. I think a lot of it is the lack of laps for me.”

Starks is hopeful he can take advantage of gaining laps this Saturday at another famed half-mile track to set himself up well for the Knoxville Nationals next month.

“Just like at Williams Grove, Knoxville will have the toughest competition in racing during the Nationals so we need to be competitive right out of the box,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll have a good night this Saturday and we can be strong during the Capitani Classic as well to have momentum entering the Knoxville Nationals.”
