Daniel J. Thiel, 56, died on Friday, July 22, at his home in Beaver Dam.He was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School and graduated from UW Stout with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Thiel promoted the popular Sue Theil Memorial Race for 13-years in memory of his wife killed in a 2001 auto accident.
A “fan” of midget racing Theil was responsible for midget racing returning to the Dodge County Fairgrounds in 2006, after a 19-year absence. He promoted six midget races at the track. He also promoted a popular three-day swing of USAC National Midget Series events at LaCrosse (WI) Speedway, Slinger (WI) Speedway and Rockford Speedway in May 2008. Theil also promoted a USAC/Badger event at the Plymouth (WI) Dirt Track in September 2007, making the first midget race at the track since 1985.
Survivors include his two children, Mackenzie (Ann) Thiel of Beaver Dam and Nicole Thiel of Stanley; six grandchildren; two siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, and a daughter, Danni Jo Thiel.
Family and friends will gather at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. Private burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
