Concord, CA | June 30, 2016 – With six victories and 14 top five finishes in 17 starts this season, Concord, California’s Joey Ancona is arguably the hottest Restricted driver in the country right now. Entering this weekend’s Budweiser Outlaw Nationals and next week’s second annual CA Speedweek as the USAC Micro Sprint point leader, the 11-year old young gun will be a strong favorite to score several more wins and claim his first career CA Speedweek championship.
After starting the season off with hard charger honors and a seventh place finish at the Tulsa Shootout, Ancona’s year has only gotten better. Making 17 feature starts to date, the driver of the Pace Chassis, Factory Kahne, Hamblin Motorsport No. 88 has recorded an impressive six wins and a whopping 14 top five finishes. The Concord native also picked up a big Tachi Palace Nationals title at Lemoore in late-May.
Stealing two wins at Plaza Park, Lemoore and Dixon each, Ancona has already competed at all four speedweek tracks and seen success at all of them. With four nights at Plaza, nine at Lemoore, two at Dixon and two at Delta, the Ancona Racing team is well-prepared as they enter next week’s second running of CA Speedweek.
With a combined four wins at Plaza Park and Dixon, Ancona will enter the month of July as the current USAC National Micro Sprint point leader in the Restricted division. This year’s champion will receive a class at Cory Kruseman’s Sprint Car and Midget Driving School, a great opportunity for the already impressive rising star.
On tap this weekend will be a USAC doubleheader as Plaza Park Raceway hosts the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals on Friday and Saturday night. With two more nights under the National sanction, Ancona will have a chance to extend his points lead.
This year’s CA Speedweek will be contested from Tuesday, July 5th to Saturday, July 9th. The series will head from the north to the south as they travel from Dixon to Delta to Plaza Park and host the finale at Lemoore. You can watch every lap of the action on www.fastfourmedia.com for $20 a night or $65 for the entire week.
