Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 19, 2016) – Caleb Helms overcame a rough week to show progress at the end of the 33rd annual Kings Royal.

“The Kings Royal went a lot better at the end,” he said. “I do like where we’re at. I think we’re getting the car underneath me and we’re communicating better.”

The busy week began a week ago Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, during the Brad Doty Classic with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“I felt like I was pretty good and it wasn’t that big of a cushion when I went to hot lap,” Helms said. “When we qualified I went to run it and it bit me. It just took the car. When I got in the cushion I couldn’t get it to rotate. It brought the front of the car up and started somersaulting forward.”

Helms flipped during qualifying and the team was behind the eight ball for the remainder of the night. It also forced them to miss the opening night of the Kings Royal on Thursday.

Unfortunately, Helms ran into more problems during qualifying on Friday.

“I felt really good for the first part of my qualifying lap,” he said. “I got in deep and started to go up above the cushion in turn two. I didn’t turn it down enough. That corner comes down on you hard in turn two. I got sucked in and it pulled the car into the wall. Thankfully we didn’t tear up more than we did.”

Helms was unable to finish the remainder of the night following the crash during qualifying.

The team brought out a spare car on Saturday for the Kings Royal finale at the half-mile oval. However, mechanical problems plagued the team early in the night as Helms timed in 49th quickest before placing eighth in a heat race.

“We didn’t get anything straightened out until the C Main, but the motor wouldn’t take off on the start or restarts,” he said. “We held on for a transfer spot and it got better in the B Main.”

Helms placed fifth in the C Main and he charged from 23rd to 12th in the B Main before the nose wing fell down.

“I started passing some cars early in the B Main,” he said. “After the first red my nose wing fell down again and I was having a hard time turning into the corner. That’s a big deal at Eldora. There was just something all night long.”

Helms ended 12th in the consolation race.

He is set to make his debut at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions this Friday and Saturday.
