Billings Motorsports Park Welcoming National Drivers and First Responders to NSA Shootout This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 14, 2016) – This weekend’s huge event at Billings Motorsports Park just got even better.

The NSA Shootout, which features 360ci winged sprint cars, midwest modifieds and street stocks on Friday and Saturday with late models also part of Saturday’s program, has added First Responder Appreciation Weekend to the program. Any first responder who brings his or her valid identification to the track will receive free admission to the marquee event.

“We strongly support those who serve and protect our freedom and we want to show our gratitude for those brave people,” Billings Motorsports Park Owner Mike Quigley said. “This weekend’s event will be our biggest of the year so far and we’re looking forward to the national drivers taking on the regional racers.”

Red Bull Global Rallycross star Steve Arpin, who drives for Loenbro Chip Ganassi Racing, will make his debut at the 3/8-mile oval in the late model class on Saturday. Arpin isn’t the only national competitor heading to Billings Motorsports Park this weekend.

Defending Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour champion Aaron Reutzel along with ASCS National Tour drivers Wayne Johnson and Matt Covington have stated they will be racing along with Texas native Travis Rilat and Oregon’s Roger Crockett.

Montana’s Trever Kirkland, David Hoiness, Josh Ostermiller and Roger Cummings, South Dakota’s D.J. Brink and Canada’s Kelly Miller and Marc Duperron are among the regional standouts who have said they are competing as well.

The sprint car race format for this weekend’s $2,000-to-win event on Friday and $7,500-to-win, $500-to-start finale on Saturday is as follows:

All cars will qualify with the fastest qualifier earning 50 points. Each subsequent position drops one point. If there are 32 or more cars there will be split qualifying.

Heat races are inverted by six with the fastest qualifier lining up on the outside of the third row for the first heat race, the second fastest qualifier on the outside of the third row for the second heat race, etc. Heat race winners receive 50 points with each subsequent position dropping three points.

The top six drivers in combined qualifying and heat race points advance into the dash, which will be lined up via a redraw. Drivers ranked seven through 16 are locked into the main event with the B main transferring the top four into the back of the A Main.

Drivers will not lock into Saturday’s program through Friday’s event. However, a driver who does not compete on Friday can’t make the dash on Saturday.

There are bonuses available for drivers who are victorious during the NSA Shootout, which also features doubleheaders on Aug. 26-27 at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, during the 61st annual Gold Cup and Sept. 9-10 at Billings Motorsports Park.
