Inside Line Promotions – WHITE CITY, Ore. (July 13, 2016) – Confidence in yourself is important in anything you do in life. In racing it takes on an even bigger role. Patrick Dills struggled during the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek Northwest. Now he is hoping a new car will help improve his confidence.

“We set some pretty big goals for Speedweek,” he said. “We wanted to finish in the top 10 in every event. We struggled all week with the setup. We couldn’t get the car off the right rear. We’re putting a new car together this week. I hope it will help me build my confidence back up. We’re going to take small steps and set attainable goals to help do that.”

Dills wrapped up his Speedweek Friday at Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, Calif., and Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway.

On Friday the team was faced with a “horribly rough track.” Dills qualified 11th quickest and placed sixth in a heat race.

“We lost brakes and thrashed on the car to at least get rear brakes for the heat,” he said. “I didn’t have time to get tear-offs on my helmet and I couldn’t see in the heat. In the feature we took the green and another car sent me into the wall so I stopped and went to the back. Then the track lights went off in turn one. They put the push truck lights on the track, but that blinded us and we all boycotted the race until they got the lights fixed. When we restarted I was at the back and the car was super tight on a rough track and I didn’t want to tear it up so I pulled in.”

Dills was credited with a 14th-place result.

Saturday started much better for Dills, who timed in 12th quickest during qualifying before placing second in a heat race. However, on the first lap of the feature he hooked a rut and pulled the left rear tire off the rim, sending him to the pits for a tire change and to the rear of the field for the restart.

“I came from the tail up to 10th and had just gotten lapped when the caution came out,” he said. “They put me between the first and second-place cars. I knew I couldn’t pass anyone so I went to the tail.”

Dills, who ended 16th, finished 11th overall in the Speedweek standings.

He will be back in a new Eagle chassis this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., to compete with the 360 sprints.
