Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 12, 2016) – Another bad pill draw and poor qualifying run put Kevin Mingus behind during both races last weekend.

Mingus was at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday in the Huber Motorsports 305ci sprint car. He drew a bad heat race pill and started on the tail. Failing to advance from his heat, Mingus had to run a B Main.

“We were very competitive in the B Main,” he said. “I was right there battling for the final transfer spot and came up just short. It was bittersweet. We didn’t make the show, but we’re making a steady uphill climb and we’re getting better each week. I can’t wait to see what the next race brings us. We just need a little luck with the pill draw.”

On Saturday Mingus climbed in the Brandon Oakley Motorsports late model to compete on the asphalt at Columbus Motor Speedway.

“We had four new guys show up and they had new tires on,” he said. “I have been terrible at qualifying all year, but I turned probably one of my fastest laps. The problem was all the rest of us were behind because of those new cars.”

Mingus, who qualified 10th quickest and placed third in a heat race, was battling for eighth place in the feature when he made contact with another car late in the race.

“He got out of the gas and I was already out there and we crashed,” he said. “It tore the right rear quarter panel off and the hood popped up. I couldn’t see. I got passed on the last lap and finished 10th. I just have to get better in qualifying.”

Mingus will venture to a new track Friday with the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Sprint Championship Series.

“We’re going to Limaland Motorsports Park (in Lima, Ohio),” he said. “I’ve never seen the place let alone raced on it. I’m excited. I’ve heard a lot about the place how wide and fast it is.”

On Saturday Mingus will be back in the late model at Columbus Motor Speedway.

“We just need a little luck, a better qualifying effort on my end, and the results will be there,” he said. “My guys on both teams have worked their tails off and now I need to reward them.”
