Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 11, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi posted a top-10 finish during his debut at Cedar Lake Speedway last weekend for the FVP Outlaws at Cedar Lake event.

Scelzi, who drove for his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series portion of the doubleheader, was offered a unique opportunity to start the weekend on Friday.

“I was hanging out at the race track and about 30 minutes before the drivers meeting Pat Donahue and Danny Lasoski walked over and said Pat needed a driver (for his 360ci sprint car),” he said. “I had an extra seat so it worked out perfectly. We got it bolted in right before hot laps.”

Scelzi advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race and from sixth to fourth place in a challenge race to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“We were a little tight early, but we got moving toward the end of the race,” he said. “I was close to the top five. It was a good night and I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity.”

Scelzi scored a sixth-place result, which marked his 10th top 10 this season.

The World of Outlaws competition that night began with Scelzi qualifying 18th quickest before ending sixth in a heat race.

“We fell back to sixth and passed back for fifth,” he said. “Then our nose wing collapsed and I got tight after a yellow and kind of pushed and ended up sixth. In the B Main we were really good and I was able to run second.”

Scelzi rebounded in the Last Chance Showdown to finish second and transfer into the back of the main event. Unfortunately, a handling issue resulted in a DNF for Scelzi.

“I was running through the middle and I picked a good amount of cars off early,” he said. “We had a right rear shock spud snap. When it broke it got us in the wall and bent the right rear. That ended our night early.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday when Scelzi only competed in his car. He timed in 10th quickest before finishing fifth in a heat race.

“We qualified really strong,” he said. “In the heat race we got to racing with the guy in third and (Brian) Brown snuck by me. That lined us up 13th in the main event. We ran around 13th or 14th the entire race. On the last restart I had an idea I’d try something different and it cost me a few spots.”

Scelzi ended with a 17th-place result.

He will return to action this Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the 33rd annual Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“It seems like the last couple of weeks we haven’t had the luck to get the finishes,” he said. “I’m hoping we get a little luck on our side and we’re able to have speed this weekend. I feel like we raced really well with the All Stars there last month. My biggest goal for this weekend is to qualify strong.”
