Taylor Adapting to Change from Midget to Sprint Car

Inside Line Promotions – CALHAN, Colo. (July 7, 2016) – Adapting from racing a midget to a sprint car isn’t as easy as one would think. Young Zac Taylor learned that this past weekend.

After spending the previous week behind the wheel of Todd Henry’s midget, in which he recorded a runner-up finish for the third straight race, Taylor was back behind the wheel of the family owned 305ci sprint car for three night of racing.

“I found out it’s not as easy going from a midget to a sprint car as it is from a sprint car to a midget,” Taylor said. “I was used to Todd really helping me … he tells me what to expect with certain track conditions and what the car will do. My dad and I got used to that … it took us a little bit to get the sprint car adjusted to make me comfortable again.”

The holiday weekend started last Friday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., with the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS). Taylor had to transfer from the B Main to the main event, where he finished 17th after a pair of spins.

“Unfortunately I hit the large mud area and spun,” he said. “Then I spun a second time, causing me to be done for the night.”

The races Saturday were postponed due to rain and Taylor returned to Dodge City Raceway Park on Sunday. He rebounded for a seventh-place finish.

“All year I’ve drawn great pills, but lately it’s been horrible,” he said. “For the three nights of racing I drew a 72, a 27 and a six.”

Monday found Taylor at familiar El Paso County Raceway with the Colorado Alliance Tour.

“I hit another large mud area and spun after and went to the tail and came back and finished eighth,” he said. “They watered the track right before the feature because of the dust and it caught us a little off guard.

“Once we got back to being in the sprint car we adapted and adjusted very well, which shows you how good this team is.”

Taylor returns to action this Saturday at El Paso County Raceway and Sunday at Dawson County Speedway in Lexington, Neb.
