Inside Line Promotions – THE WOODLANDS, Texas (July 6, 2016) – Tommy Bryant is hoping the lessons he and the SawBlade.com sponsored Cooper Motorsports team learned during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek will pay huge dividends in his chase for the ASCS Gulf South Region championship.
“Running with those national guys … they run so much and have so much knowledge; it taught us a lot,” he said. “You have to be fast when you unload and a few nights during Speedweek that didn’t happen for us. We had to dig ourselves out of some big holes. Speedweek taught us where our weaknesses are, especially on our maintenance program and we learned a great deal.”
Bryant won’t be back in the seat of the Cooper Motorsports machine until July 22-23 for the 15th annual Summer Nationals with the ASCS Gulf South Region. Bryant will race at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, on July 22 and at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, on July 23.
“These are two tracks we run very well at,” he said. “We’ve got a third and a fourth at Heart O’ Texas and at Cotton Bowl we came from nearly missing the show … we were the last transfer car, to one of the fastest cars on the track in the feature.
“At Cotton Bowl I came from 20th up to fifth and got into a lapped car and hit the wall and rolled it. I don’t think I’ve had a better car this year than that night. Brad and the guys gave me a great race car. I could roll through the middle where no one else was running. I’m excited to get back there and redeem myself.”
Over the next couple of weeks Bryant, who currently ranks third in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings, plans to spend time with his family and get reenergized for the rest of the racing season.
