Independence Day Weekend Recap

Independence Day Weekend Recap

The Scott Thiel motorsports team headed into Independence Day Weekend with two events on tap. First, the team travelled to the Manitowoc Speedway on Friday for the last ever 410 sprint car event EVER at the track. This event was promoted by our own Scotty Thiel and his Six Four Promotions team. The team followed that event up with a Sunday race at Seymour Speedway where Scotty would go on to capture a solid top 5 finish for the weekend.

Friday night at Manitowoc Speedway in Manitowoc, WI, Scotty would go out 20th in the 27 car field for qualifying. After laying down a 13.368 lap time that would place him 12th quick overall. That qualifying effort would place Scotty to start third in the heat race event. After the field took the green, Scotty worked the low groove to move up to the second position and began to reel in the leader. He made several slide job attempts but was unable to complete the pass and would settle for a second place finish. Thiel would end up starting 13th in the 30 lap main event. As the field took the green, Scotty worked through the middle and moved up several positions as they went down the back stretch. He moved his way into the top 10 in just the first lap. He moved up and started running the high side and build up a lot of momentum. He found himself in the fifth position at the halfway point of the race and a caution would come out on lap 17. On the restart, Thiel worked his way into the fourth position. He continued to work the top side of the track and gained on the leaders. On lap 21, Scotty jumped the cushion entering turn one and tried to correct the car but he lost his grip and spun sideways. He was collected by a couple of cars and that would end the night for the STM #64. Official finish was 21st. “I just really hate this for my guys. We worked really hard to rebound after a mediocre qualifying run. I was up to 4th and the car was coming around well. I felt like we had a good shot at a top three finish for sure. I just jumped the cushion and couldn’t save it.” Said a disappointed Thiel.

The team worked hard Saturday to prepare the car for Sunday nights action which took place at Seymour Speedway in Seymour, WI. Scotty would time 10th out of 23 cars in attendance. That placed him to start third in the heat race event. The track conditions were very slick and it did not have much grip for the drivers. On the start, Scotty began to work the low groove but lost several spots trying to get up to the top side of the track where there was some moisture left. After ten laps of green flag action, Scotty would finish in the fifth position. The crew went to work and changed a lot of things on the car for the 30 lap main event where Scotty would start 12th. The field took the green and Thiel quickly got to the cushion and worked his way around the track. The cushion was right next to the wall and made for a very challenging race. He moved his way into the top ten early in the race and continued to build his momentum. At the halfway point of the race, Scotty was up to the sixth position and battled for the next few spots. Two cars crossed up in turn four and Thiel would make his move into the top five after sliding by the cars in turn one. A red flag came out with only a few laps left and Scotty was sitting in the fourth position. After returning to the green, Scotty continued his charge but did not gain any more ground. With two laps to go, Scotty bobbled on the cushion in turn three and would fall back to the fifth spot where he would go on to finish the 30 lap event. “It was a solid top five run for us tonight. After struggling Friday this made things a little better. I think the car was better than fifth but it was a tough track to gain any ground on tonight. I can’t thank my crew enough for all their hard work this weekend.” Mentioned Thiel after the event.

Next on tap for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team is this coming Friday night at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA and then Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway with the World of Outlaws!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
