Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (July 6, 2016) – Chase Johnson earned a pair of strong results during a rare weekend in his family owned sprint car.

Johnson opened last weekend on Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., by qualifying 10th quickest overall.

“We didn’t qualify that well,” he said. “The second lap would have been a good lap, but we bobbled a little on the cushion. I knew that we had to win the heat race to put ourselves in the feature redraw, but we weren’t able to get the jump and the track wasn’t too racy. I didn’t get a chance to get around the leader.”

Johnson placed second in the heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“We hung out for a good five or 10 laps before we got moving forward,” he said. “The car came to us a little bit later. I think people were losing their cars as the race went on. We made a few moves and we finished sixth.”

Johnson garnered a sixth-place result, which provided his team momentum entering Sunday’s race at Petaluma Speedway.

“I didn’t really nail the qualifying laps and the setup, but we led every lap of the heat race and that put us in the redraw for the main event,” he said.

Johnson timed in 11th quickest before he won a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 3 during the random redraw to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

“We pulled a good pill,” he said. “In the A Main we spent the majority in the third spot. With about eight laps to go we got held up in traffic. It was pretty chaotic and there was a lot of traffic everywhere. We managed to stay with the leaders for the good part of the race. Late in the race we got in a rut and the car got upset and a guy snuck by for the third position.”

Johnson ended with a fourth-place finish, which was his seventh top five of the season.

“The car rolled back into the trailer in one piece,” he said. “A sixth and a fourth isn’t bad at all, especially since we don’t run too many races in the No. 24 car. We don’t get to work with the chassis, shocks and motor very often so we’re happy with those results.”

Johnson will return to the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas entry this Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.
