As Michael Bookout's dad, I want to thank him for continuing to create memorable "Fathers Day" racing weekends. Racing for the Bookout team is a family passion and I am blessed to have a son who enjoys racing and is gifted in his racing abilities. Two years ago, Michael celebrated his first OCRS "A" Feature win on a Fathers Day weekend and this year, we celebrated Fathers Day weekend competing at Monett, Missouri, in the OCRS on Friday and at Lucas Oil Speedway (Diamond of Dirt Tracks) in a National Event with the ASCS on Saturday.
The OCRS race at Monett saw Michael come back to take 7th place in the "A" Feature after spinning out late in the race. It was Bookout's third top ten in the "A" this season and his highest feature finish of the year, vaulting him to 6th place in the season standings. Bookout crossed the line 4th in his heat race, a race that saw a rain shower during the race, causing slick spots on the track and raindrops on the visor of the helmet.
Saturday night, the Bookout team bypassed the OCRS event at Caney Valley Speedway, opting to compete in a national ASCS event in Wheatland, Missouri, at Lucas Oil Speedway. Racing at a facility as amazing as Lucas Oil was an opportunity that the team could not pass up. Bookout was competitive in his heat race until brake problems popped up, resulting in an 8th place finish. Bookout then started at the back of one of the "B" Features and passed three cars on the first lap, but on the 2nd lap, the brake problem reappeared and he ended up taking home an 8th place finish in the "B", out of the 12 that started. The Lucas Oil race was the fifth race of the Sizzlin Summer ASCS Speedweek; Bookout was competing in his third injected 360 ASCS event of his career and several of the drivers at the race that night had competed in five races in a week's time.
